What
Client says about Hotel Flower Garden,Sri
Lanka
"Our Little
piece of Paradise”
We
discovered The wonderful Hotel Flower
Garden in 2001,Liking the name of
the hotel and the sound of Unawatuna
beach we booked in for a couple
of nights. We were met at the airport
and driven through the rush hour
traffic to The Hotel..hesitant about
what we would find!As soon as the
gates opened we knew no mistakes
had been made...we loved it,we were
greeted by the wonderful staff to
carry our bags and then by Sassi
the owner and now dear friend..we
whilst there were treated like royalty
nothing was too much trouble,And
believe me I take some pleasing!!
(A fussy vegetarian and not a bad
cook myself) Food was excellent,Staff..really
lovely(even naughty Mahesh),friendly,fun
and always willing to climb to get
a coconut or make a pot of tea if
that is what you fancy. The cabana's
are perfect for that romantic get
away,four poster bed,lovely bathroom
and your own little veranda and
garden with the most beautiful flowers..
Sassi arranged the best trips for
us with fantastic drivers who were
safe and very knowledgeable,0n route
to various sights our driver would
detour to show us "something Else"
of interest. I can't speak highly
enough of any of the trips arranged
for us by Sassi....we found it all...fantastic
safe beach,friendly people,peace
and tranquility..And the Hotel Flower
Garden!! Our little piece of paradise....We
have travelled the world and visited
most places just once...we have
been back to Sri Lanka every year
since finding our spot and will
be going back again! With a Cabana
named after us we have to go back,or
as we like to call it now..Home
from home!! Landy and Dickie Kelly

"Sassi's
Magic.”
We
have arrived home after our 7th
stay at the Flower Garden. It just
gets better and better. I have never
stayed anywhere in the word where
you are so well looked after. Sassi
and his boys are fantastic, perfect
service, great food and great fun.
The cabanas have a fantastic shower
room, better that most large hotels.
The beds are without a doubt the
most comfortable that I have slept
on in a long time, every year I
can't wait to get back. The 2 dogs
are very placid and not a problem
at all. When you come back from
the beach the great pleasure of
slipping into the pool is amazing,
it is always very clean and well
kept. The gardens are beautiful
and so tranquil that it is a joy
to be there.
Sassi, keep doing your MAGIC at
the Flower Garden and Doug and I
will see you next year.
Love to all.

"Fantastic
value, great services”
I
wish I didn't wait so long to post
my review. Here it is, nearly 3
months later, as written when we
returned home.
"We just returned from a 2-week
holiday in Sri Lanka. We stayed
at Flower Garden, chosen after a
thorough search through the reviews
on this website. Having re-read
the reviews, can see how true they
were indeed, except for a few negative
ones that sound more like they were
written by jealous competition!
Some of the things we loved about
it:
- wonderful setting, beautiful and
very well maintained gardens;
- wildlife- monkeys, an array of
birds, chipmunks, various (non-dangerous)
reptiles, butterflies etc;
- lovely cabanas, with private terrace,
spacious and comfortable, mosquito
nets and coils, modern bathrooms
and no TV (what a blessing!);
- close to beach but far enough
to not be disturbed by late evening
party noise; we were there during
the full moon celebrations and believe
me the noise on the beach was very
loud, rave-like music and a lot
of heavy beat, but thankfully we
didn't hear much of it;
- great food;
- attentive service;
- constant bustle around the place,
from clearing leaves, to cleaning
the pool and watering the garden;
- safety- someone is keeping watch
on the property throughout the night-
so you could probably sleep with
your door open, if it wasn't for
the mossies, chipmunks and other
creatures!
- flexibility- a couple of times
we slept in late but when we arrived
at the restaurant terrace (an hour
after breakfast finished) food appeared
on the table straight away when
maybe it would have been better
for business to ask if we wanted
to order lunch! We were touched
by how attentive everybody is and
how there is no hard sale at all-
which works wonders as you actually
end up finding ways to give them
more business.
We chose the bed & breakfast
option as we wanted to try different
places for dinner. However, food
at Flower Garden is so much superior
to everywhere else (except for maybe
one or two other places) that we
ended up eating there 6 out of 10
times! Sassi's menu is indeed very
European but he will probably prepare
anything you wish if you ask- we
didn't need to. He also prepares
lovely Sri Lankan curries, we had
that once and about 10 different
dishes were served- it was delicious!
Special mention of all staff, seen
or not seen- they are all really
nice, unimposing yet friendly and
very accommodating and helpful-
from telling you what the trees
are to showing you where to spot
the monkeys etc
Ask Sassi about booking any trips-
he arranged a very good deal for
us to go whale watching (we paid
half as much as the others on the
boat!). He can also arrange good
deals for other hotels so if you
plan on booking elsewhere in Sri
Lanka ask Sassi before making a
firm booking, he might be able to
get better rates.
It feels like a big family and all
staff seem to be loving it there-
that is hard to achieve anywhere
so this must be proof of Sassi's
great management and people skills-
and him and his staff always have
a smile on their faces! Must remember
this is a country that was faced
with great tragedy (the tsunami)
and is still fighting a war so it
is so hopeful to see that things
can work for better. We noticed
that Sassi is constantly improving
the property- few things only during
out stay, like building a wall near
the small entrance and arranging
a few lotus pools around the restaurant.
Some other highlights:
- The dogs are great, very friendly
and never bothering you when eating
or at any other times really. They
makes you feel at home.
- Very nice pool, great for a pre-dinner
swim.
- Wake up calls from the monkeys-
I am now trying to find a download
with their calls for my alarm, it
was the best and we are missing
it already!
"Hotel
Flower Garden has everything!”
We
staying at HFG for the 2nd time,
having discovered it in 2006. We
were very happy to return with 2
children this time and it was fantastic.
Sassi and all the boys, including
Mahesh, make sure that you are looked
after and there is a lovely, friendly
atmosphere at the hotel. Our eldest
son loves the staff, especially
Mahesh, and the location of the
hotel, allows you to view amazing
wildlife and nature. The facilities
are lovely and very well looked
after - having travelled extensively
in Sri Lanka, I couldn't recommend
this hotel enough.
"favorite
hotel in all of Sri Lanka”
was at the Flower Garden towards
the end of my 3 week stay in Sri
Lanka. Of all the hotels I stayed
at, including Amaya Lake and Amaya
Hills, this was my favorite.
The rooms are great with a beautiful,
clean bathroom. The bungalow layout
was very nice for privacy and Sassi
and his staff could not have done
more for us. The food was superb
especially the fruit plate at breakfast
and the beef at dinner. The pool
and grounds were very nice. For
something just a bit different,
ask to watch them feed their carnivorous
fish in the morning.
Sassi even got me a very nice price
on a hotel room in Colombo.
The only negative to report was
the masseuse, however not much lost
at 1,100 SLR for an hour on my back.
Looking back on my trip, I wish
I stayed a day longer at the Flower
Garden and a day less in Colombo.
If I am ever back in Sri Lanka,
I will make a point to stay at the
Flower Garden again.
"Perfect
holiday place”
Hotel
Flower Garden is the perfect place
to relax and enjoy your holiday.
We stayed there for a week, which
is unusual long for us. There was
no reason to leave. Our kids (3
and 5) enjoyed the pool the most,
because the sea was too rough in
July. The complex is beautiful and
rooms are clean and well decorated.
It shows that the manager is educated
is Europe. The hygiene and service
is of very high quality, but the
prices are still Sri Lankan. Good
restaurant and massage inside the
complex. Beaches are close by and
a lot to see and do in and around
Unawatuna.
"The
Flower Garden made our holiday!!”
We
had been recommended the Flower
Garden by some friends of ours that
had stayed there before and when
we arrived we knew why they had
recommended it!! We had an absolutely
delightful stay. The staff were
amazing particuarly Mahesh our waiter
and Sassi the owner who was so helpfull
and accomodating, nothing is too
much trouble! Honestly it is hard
to describe the levels that they
go to to make sure that you have
an amazing stay. The hotel itself
is gorgeous and Sassi is constantly
striving to improve it. The cabana's
are beautiful and this is without
doubt the place to stay in Unawatuna.
The food here is also fantastic
(the steak is a must!) and we were
even allowed into the kitchen ourselves
and taught for free how to cook
authentic rice and curry! We stayed
here for 7nights before heading
off to see other parts of the island
(on a tour that we booked through
the flower garden) and Sassi called
us on several occasions during our
tour just to make sure we were enjoying
ourselves and that everything was
ok. This hotel and the service we
received really did make our holiday
and we miss the place greatly and
can't wait to go back! Many thanks
to Sassi and Mahesh for a wonderful
holiday and hope to see you again
soon. Gavin and Anna.
